Best Places to Visit in Chandigarh

1. Sukhna Lake: Place must visit

It is a man-made or you can say rain-fed lake, created in 1958 by damming the Sukhna Choe. It is a place where you must visit whenever you are in Chandigarh. It is a great place for sightseeing, photography, picnics & boating.

What to do?

  1. Boating: Though it’s a lakeyou can boat here. People who visit must try their hands on boating as a hobby. The price of boating depends on what you choose,Pedal Boats, rowing Boats, and Motorboats.
  2. Photography: Capture the beauty of Sukhna Lake whenever you visit there. Beauty lies in nature, and it is a place where you can capture mesmerizing views of the Lake, Sunrise, Sunset, Birds, Boats, and many more.
  3. Morning Walk: It is a beautiful place for a morning walk. People residing in Chandigarh always visit in the morning during their weekends. Sunrise with a slightly chilled wind always makes the morning beautiful and fresh.
  4. Family & Kids: People often visit with their family, friends & kids for Picnic, sightseeing and boating. For kids, it is a different experience where they can boat in the lake and run freely on the bank of the lake.

Best time to Visit, Entry Fee & Timings

As per my experience, I would prefer to visit during Winter (November mid to February). During winter you will feel comfortable in the sun as compared to summer. If you want some peace, always try to go as early as possible to avoid crowds.

How to Visit There?

If you are residing in Chandīgarh and you have a vehicle, then you can go directly there with the help of Google Maps. If you are a tourist and you want to Visit Sukhna Lake, then book a cab from wherever you are residing. In Case of any help regarding the route follow Google Maps for better understanding. Public transport is also available, you can also go there on buses, autos, bikes, etc.

 

2. Rock Garden

It is a sculpture of rocks and waste materials made by the person Nek Chand Saini in 1957. It is also known as Nek Chand Saini’s Rock Garden. He made this garden secretly during his leisure time. Area-wise it is spread over around 40 acres. Rock gardens have become an attraction for tourism over the years. Thousands of people visit every day.

Specialty:

Rocks & Waste materials: When you visit the placeyou will feel it is sculpturedwith rocks and waste materials like ceramics teacups, mugs, plates, rocks, etc. You will be mesmerized by sculptures made on the walls. You will see dolls, dancing girls, and different types of statues made with stones, or you can say art of gems.
  2. Waterfalls: If you are visiting during summerthen Waterfall is a place where you can relax yourself.While roaming inside the Garden you will see multiple Waterfall at multiple places.
  3. Photography: If you are a photographer and you are visiting therethenyou can capture the scenic beauty of the Rock Garden from every angle. For photographers or photographers, it is a perfect place.
  4. Aquariums: While roaming through the gardenyou will come across Aquariums where you will see different types of Fish. Aquariums are big, and you will seeall the aquariums are full of colorful Fishes from different countries.
  5. Mirror: When you visit Rock Garden mustvisit the Mirror area. Just go in front of the mirror and see yourself.

What to do?

It is always recommended to carry water bottles with you, however, there is a shop inside the Garden, but you don’t know when you will feel thirsty. Always Follow the written instructions. Do not try anything which may harm you or wound you.

3. Rose Garden: Graceful, Fragrant blooms.

A serene paradise, abundant with more than 800 types of flowers dancing in the gentle breeze, creating a breathtaking tapestry of colors and fragrances. This garden also has more than 30 thousand different varieties of plants and medicinal shrubs that include Bahera, Harar, Bel, Yellow Gulmohar, etc. This garden also known as Zakir Hussain Rose Garden named after the former president, Zakir Hussain. The garden is spread over 30 acres, and it was built in the year 1967 under the guidance of the First Chief Commissioner, Mohinder Singh Randhawa.

Best Time to Visit

This Garden is one of the largest Rose Garden in Asia with more than 1600 types of Roses. It is recommended that the best time to visit Rose Garden is between January and March as the flowers are in full bloom at that time.

Arena of Roses with water fountains makes the Rose Garden, The Scenic Beauty. People usually visit there with their families and friends. You can also visit there in the morning after 6 for a morning walk. You will get lost in the aroma of roses and the fresh air.

Major Attraction

The Rose Festival is the major attraction of this garden, and it happens during the last week of February. It is observed that around 20-25 thousand people attend this festival. This festival is Organized by the Chandigarh Administration in association with the Chandigarh Tourism Department. The flower showcase show, dance performances, photography exhibits, and much more make the event a vibrant and captivating experience for all attendees.
